Primary Responsibility
To ensure the safety of your team and to follow the Club’s philosophy. The development of your players including skill instruction, fitness training and an understanding of the tactical aspects of the game
Additional Duties
• Coaches should promote good sportsmanship and must set an example for the players. Coaches should show respect for referees and opponents. Coaches should never publicly question a referee's call of chastise or belittle a referee.
• Attend the draft. Coaches’ children will receive a draft round by the VP or Division Director based on age and ratings. These choices should be discussed before the rest of the player selections begin to ensure they are appropriate. Coaches should also volunteer any information on unrated players before player selection begins. Sportsmanship and fairplay begin here.
• Notify players of team assignment. This should be accomplished within one week after the draft. One of the major complaints the VP’s receive from parents is that they don’t know if their child is on the team. Please help save the sanity of the people who run the Club and notify your players immediately. A complete roster of your team should also be distributed.
• Care, maintenance and return of equipment. You will receive a game ball, and a goalie shirt. At the end of the season, an equipment return rendezvous will be announced.
• Distribute uniforms and schedules. Please make sure you deliver the schedules promptly.
• Coaches are ultimately responsible for parental conduct during games. Coaches should inform parents of the need for appropriate and respectful behavior on the sidelines, and should directly with any parent who fails to act accordingly. Contact a member of the BHSC board of directors if you feel uncomfortable dealing with a parent directly.
• All coaches should attend license certification courses. Coaches are strongly encouraged to have an E license. Preference for the selection of coaches, all other things being equal, will take into consideration coaching licensing.
• At the younger ages coaches should expose all players to the various offensive and defensive positions. Position assignments should be rotated, giving players equal time at different positions. As players get older, more experienced, show preference for specific positions and develop particular skills, coaches should balance these considerations with the goal of enhancing an overall team effort. None-the-less, through all ages, coaches are encouraged, wherever possible to expose all players to as much diversity of the game as appropriate.
• Coaches should always remember that we are dealing with children and that the game is for the kids!
• Win, lose or draw, coaches players and parents are expected to adhere to the highest standards of fair play, competition and sportsmanship. Coaches are expected to enforce all BHSC rules, policies and procedures.
